Co-owner of Kane Motorcar Company, Inc., David Owens founded the company with Sandy Kane in 1969 when Owens returned from a tour of duty with the army.
A Rhode Island native, David was born in Providence. He grew up in Cranston where he graduated from high school with the class of 1962. He furthered his education at Dartmouth College where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in geophysics and studied Russian for four years. He graduated with the class of 1966.
Three years in the army followed college, where First Lieutenant David Owens was a transportation officer in Frankfurt, Germany during the Vietnam era. When he returned, he used his military training to attain his certification as a master automobile technician.
David and his friend since childhood, Sandy Kane, then founded Kane Motorcar Company, Inc. in North Kingstown, where the company remains to this day. He personally oversees every repair and restoration project no matter how large or small that comes through the doors.
David lives in Exeter with his artist/writer wife, Linda. Their 43-year marriage blessed them with three sons and three grandchildren, two boys and a girl.
When he isn’t working, David is heavily involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He is scoutmaster to Troop 2 of Narragansett. David has been with the Boy Scouts for more than 30 years.
